What will our au pair require?

a private, furnished bedroom inspected and approved by USAuPair
a private or shared bathroom
encouragement to participate in meals and family activities
clear communication and direction
weekly pocket money
two weeks of paid vacation
one weekend free each month
one and one-half days off weekly
up to $500 toward tuition at postsecondary institution
access to transportation when off duty
presence and training the first three days after arrival at your home

Families are also expected to make travel arrangements for their au pairs from Portland, Oregon to their city or town. Au pairs arrive in Portland to attend a 32-hour workshop on child development and safety. This is a program requirement and no exceptions may be made.

What can your family expect?

care for your children up to 10 hours daily, and up to 45 hours weekly
a minimum of 200 hours of child care experience
occasional preparation of meals
assistance with chores related directly to child care
driving children to and from school, appointments or activities
help with children's school work
playing with your children and helping them grow and develop
keeping room and common areas of home neat
joining family events and activities
punctuality with work, curfews and use of the automobile
attending classes at a postsecondary institution
au pair attendance at monthly USAuPair meetings
au pair attendance at two cultural events (January and July)
family attendance at annual cultural meeting
abiding by federal, state and local laws
